Our global perspective and local commitment drive cross-border energy trade that benefits India and its neighbors. We facilitate both imports (of fuel, components, and expertise) and exports (power and technology), strengthening economic ties. For example, India helped broker a historic deal in 2024: Nepal exported 40 MW of hydropower to Bangladesh through the Indian grid (Nepal begins historic power export to Bangladesh via India), highlighting our role as a regional energy hub. Similarly, we enable India’s growing energy-tech exports. India’s solar panel exports reached $1.97 billion in FY2023–24 (mostly to the US), showcasing our contribution to global clean energy. At the same time, we responsibly import what’s needed: solar module imports hit $4.35 billion in FY2024, as we secure high-quality equipment for domestic projects. All trade is done sustainably, adhering to green standards and strengthening peace through cooperation.

  • Cross-border power: We work on international energy exchanges. By linking with neighbors, we help stabilize grids and optimize clean resources (like Himalayan hydro). India has opened corridors with Bhutan and Nepal, and we provide the expertise to manage these links smoothly.
  • Fuel and technology: We trade in energy commodities (LNG, biomass) ensuring affordable supply, and procure cutting-edge The government’s Production- Linked Incentive schemes mean more solar panels and batteries are made at home; we incorporate these indigenously into projects.
  • Exporting our expertise: Beyond hardware, we share knowledge. Indian firms (including ours) are winning contracts and consulting abroad, from Africa to SE Asia, on energy projects. This “energy diplomacy” fosters goodwill and brings investment and technology back to India.
  • Local impact: Each import or export deal factors in community impact. For instance, revenue from cross-border power can fund local development, and imported materials must meet Indian environmental standards, ensuring that trade supports our sustainability goals.
